John
Major Jenkins is an independent researcher who has devoted himself to
reconstructing ancient Maya cosmology and philosophy. Since 1986, John
has traveled to Mexico and Central America seven times. In the summer
of 1990 he helped build a school in the village of San Pedro in Guatemala.
In 1994 he delivered emergency relief supplies to a Quiché Maya
community in the Guatemalan highlands, and in 1998 he spoke at the Maya
Calendar Congress in Merida, Mexico. Since he began his odyssey of research
and discovery with the Maya, John has authored dozens of articles and
seven books, including Journey to the Mayan Underworld (1989),
Tzolkin: Visionary Perspectives and Calendar Studies (1992/1994),
and Maya Cosmogenesis 2012 (1998). He also facilitated the translation
of The Key to the Kalevala by Pekka Ervast, editing and writing
the introduction for it. As a visiting scholar, John has taught classes
at The Institute of Maya Studies in Miami, The Esalen Institute, The
Fourth International Mayan Dreamtime Festival in England, and Naropa
University in Boulder, Colorado. He has been interviewed on numerous
radio and television shows, including the Art Bell show, the Laura Lee
show, and Dr. Patricia Hill's The Changing Paradigm. In late
2000, his cutting-edge discoveries were featured on two episodes of
the Discovery Channels "Places of Mystery" series. He
is currently working on his next book, Ancient Gnosis and the Galaxy,
to be published with Inner Traditions International in 2002. He lives
in Colorado with his wife, Eleanor. |
